Disruptive Innovations in Oncology Care

Dr. Ajit Singh, President, Siemens Oncology Care Systems Group will give a free public lecture, “Disruptive Innovations in Oncology Care”, 7 pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Colorado College’s Bemis Hall, 920 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. The Rocky Mountain Technology Alliance is a sponsor of this event organized by Colorado College.

Dr. Singh has been the president of the Oncology Care Systems Group of Siemens Medical Solutions since August 2001. Under his leadership, Siemens has pioneered some exciting new cancer therapies, using Biology-Guided Radiation Therapy (BGRT) and Adaptive Radiation Therapy (ART), which are increasingly tailored to individual patients through sophisticated feedback methods. One of the leading new cancer care technologies that has emerged is the PRIMUS Linear Accelerator, for which local Colorado Springs company Pioneer Manufacturing supplies components, a particle accelerator able to target the specific protons or electrons of cancer cells while the patient rests comfortably inside the machine. Dr. Singh holds several patents in the field of image analysis and medical imaging, and in 2003 was named one of the top 40 most distinguished and innovative business leaders under the age of 40 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This lecture is the inaugural event in Colorado College's Visiting Innovative Minds series. This series will bring prominent innovators to Colorado Springs to engage with Colorado College students and faculty, speak to the general public, and make positive connections with the innovators of the Rocky Mountain Technology Corridor. The next presentation is on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, with Laurie Marker, Executive Director, Cheetah Conservation Fund speaking on “The Cheetah Conservation Fund: An Example of Innovative Non-Profit Management”.
