TECH CONNECTIONS

Note from the Chairman:

Welcome RMTA Members, to our new E-Zine, Tech Connections. This newsletter is just one of many new projects you’ll see from RMTA this year. 2006 will be a momentous year for RMTA, as we make big leaps toward accomplishing RMTA’s mission: encouraging cooperation among industry, academic institutions, and government organizations to expand the Rocky Mountain Technology Corridor's global leadership in technology.

We’ve laid out some ambitious goals for the year, and already made a lot of progress.

  • Be sure to visit our new web site, designed to be more valuable to you—more on that below.
  • We’re heavy into planning for a technology forum in the fall, most likely centered on funding and financing innovation in technology. Details will be announced soon.
  • We’re working to obtain a grant for a project that focuses across the business community and all levels of education, from kindergarten to graduate school, to address the future of our technology workforce.
  • We also hope to see several RMTA chapters activated in the corridor, as we get our membership process and dues structure (you knew that had to come eventually) formalized.

I see many technological challenges that remain to be tackled, and so much potential for innovation and collaboration in the region. With your help, we can turn potential into reality. To all the RMTA Members, my sincere thanks for helping RMTA launch what I hope will be a productive and meaningful partnership. I encourage all of you to offer suggestions on how RMTA can be more effective, and to jump in and help make it happen.

We’re calling this Phase 1, and plan to add more features in Phase 2 in the coming months, such as online membership registration and more members-only pages. If you have events you’d like to place on our calendar, or news releases you’d like posted, please go to http://www.rockymountaintechnology.org/event_request.php . We also look forward to your suggestions for making the web site a place for collaboration. Many thanks to Jeff Harrell and Advanced Business Solutions!

Intel Corporation, Featured Member

Intel Corporation is a leading supplier of microprocessors and other computing components. Intel began operations in Colorado in 2000 and now employs more than 1600 people in two locations along the Front Range: a manufacturing and design facility in Colorado Springs, and a design center in Fort Collins, with a combined payroll of well over $58 million. Intel is committed to partnering for technology in the corridor, as evidenced not only by their membership in RMTA, but also their involvement with AeA, which is a collaborative effort among technology firms to engage in public policy.

Intel is also active in a number of education programs to help develop the tech workforce of the future by promoting math, science, and technology in local schools. One example is Project Lead the Way, a program that focuses on getting Middle and High School Students excited about math, science and engineering. Intel received a national award for their efforts with PLTW to engage girls in science and technology. For more on Project Lead the Way, visit www.PLTW.org. For more about Intel and their other education initiatives, see www.intel.com.

Editor’s note: Tech Connections will feature a different member of RMTA in each edition.
